| Workshop on Magnetoelectric Interaction Phenomena in Crystals (MEIPIC6) |
The International Center for Materials Research (ICMR) at UC Santa Barbara announces a workshop on Magnetoelectric Interaction Phenomena in Crystals (MEIPIC-6), which will take place at UC Santa Barbara from January 26-29, 2009.
The scope of the conference is to provide a forum for discussions of new ideas and results on the magnetoelectric interactions of ordered matter. Aside from the microscopic origin and the fundamental aspects of magnetoelectric behavior “gigantic” magnetoelectric effects and potential device applications of the magnetoelectric effect will be discussed. With the workshop we attempt to encourage the interdisciplinary exchange among experimentalists and theorists from various World Hemispheres and to stimulate novel approaches to the field. This workshops follows MEIPIC Conferences in Seattle (1973), Ascona (1993), Novgorod (1996), Novgorod (2001), and Sudak (2003).
Topics for the workshop will include:
Linear and higher order magnetoelectric effects
Novel mechanisms for magnetoelectric coupling (multiferroics)
Magnetoelectric phase control
Toroidal moments
Multilayer effects
Interface effects
Dynamical magnetoelectric effects (incl. electromagnons)
Novel materials
Non-oxide compounds
Composites
Potential systems for technical application
