The International Center for Materials Research (ICMR) is organizing
a residential, two-week summer school on Topics in Biomaterials
from August 7 to August 20, 2005. The school will take place on the UCSB campus.
The emphasis of the school will be to introduce the field of Biomaterials,
including important concepts and frontier research areas. Fundamentals will
be emphasized. Topics to be covered in the School include biomineralization, actin and molecular motors, synthetic proteins, nucleic acid architectures, and membrane/lipid structures. Lecturers who have agreed to participate include:
In addition, a number of UCSB faculty will present seminars.
Opportunities will also exist for participants to discuss their current
research.
We welcome applications for the Summer School from graduate (PhD)
students, post doctoral fellows and early career faculty. Participants
are expected to be actively researching biomaterials.
Travel costs will be reimbursed to the extent possible;
typically to the order of US$ 500 for US participants and US$ 1000
for participants from elsewhere. Local hospitality, meals, and housing will
be provided. Activities will commence with dinner on August 7, and end with
breakfast on August 20.
