The UCSB-MPG Workshop on Inorganic Materials for Energy Conversion, Storage, and Conservation strives to bring together Chemists, Physicists, and Materials Scientists involved in research in the broad area of Inorganic Materials for energy applications. The invited speakers are MPI Directors, faculty from Germany, and faculty from UCSB and elsewhere in the US. The workshop is supported by the UCSB-MPG Program for International Exchange in Material Sciences http://www.fhi-berlin.mpg.de/th/Meetings/SantaBarbara-2005/exchange_program.htm as well as by the NSF funded International Center for Materials Research at UCSB.
The vision of the Workshop is to enumerate the many different areas where research in new inorganic materials impacts energy issues, to position materials research in the context of emerging energy trends, and to outline a plan for the future of this field. The term “inorganic materials” is interpreted broadly, to include everything from metals and ceramics, to main-group compounds, and to hybrid materials, and to steel. An important future outcome of the Workshop would be the creation and strengthening of new collaboration, and the exchange of personnel, including students and postdocs, between the different participating groups. It is anticipated that the Gordon Conference-like format of the Workshop will create the necessary intimacy required to jump-start collaborations and exchanges.
Invited speakers include:
